I'm Relaxed, so I Keep Things In Perspective
In today's fast-paced and hectic society, finding inner calm and relaxation is more important than ever. One of the simple habits to cultivate a peaceful state of mind is keeping things in perspective.
Habit
The habit of keeping things in perspective means maintaining a calm and tranquil state of mind by recognizing the relative importance of situations and maintaining a broader life outlook.
Goals
Within the next month, when faced with a stressful situation, I will consciously pause and keep things in perspective before allowing stress to overwhelm me. I will remind myself to take a step back, assess the situation's true significance, and maintain a broader outlook, allowing for a more calm and balanced response.
Implementation
When faced with a stressful situation, take a moment to pause and reflect. Step back from the immediate emotions and gain a broader perspective. If pausing in the moment feels overwhelming, take a moment to reflect afterwards. During your reflection moment, practice these 3 evaluations:
- Worst-Case: Ask yourself, "What's the worst thing that can happen?" By exploring the possible consequences, you gain a realistic perspective on the actual severity and likelihood of those outcomes.
- Life: Consider how significant this situation is in the grand scheme of your life. Ask yourself if it truly matters in the long run and if it aligns with your values and priorities.
- Reality Check: Evaluate the actual facts and evidence surrounding the situation. Separate the reality from assumptions or exaggerated thoughts. Look for objective information and challenge any distorted perceptions, allowing for a more accurate perspective.
