Master Team Reflection
Team reflection isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s a leadership tool. The best teams don’t just move fast, they pause weekly to learn, align, and appreciate each other.
The S.T.A.R. framework gives you a quick, effective structure to guide your weekly team meetings. It helps teams reflect on progress, spot roadblocks, grow together, and build a culture of trust and recognition. It’s easy to remember and even easier to use — just reflect like a S.T.A.R..
Reflection is the habit of learning from experience — it fuels growth, alignment, and better results for individuals and teams.
Summary
S.T.A.R. helps teams build habits that elevate performance — week by week.
The 4 Steps of S.T.A.R.
S — Success: Celebrate what went well this week. Highlight wins, progress, or moments of effective collaboration.
🌟 “What went well this week?”
✅ Check-in: Did we take a moment to acknowledge our progress?
T — Troubles: Address the challenges or things that didn’t go as planned. This is about learning, not blaming.
⚠️ “What challenged us this week?”
✅ Check-in: Are we creating space to talk openly and honestly?
A — Adjust: Focus on how to improve. What small experiment or action could help us work better next week?
🔧 “What’s one thing we can do differently?”
✅ Check-in: Did we commit to at least one improvement?
R — Recognition: Appreciate someone on the team. Gratitude builds energy, trust, and motivation.
🎉 “Who deserves a shoutout and why?”
✅ Check-in: Did we give credit where it’s due?
How to Use
Start by using S.T.A.R. weekly — ideally at the end of each team meeting. Keep it short, honest, and focused. It only takes 10–15 minutes to build a rhythm of reflection and growth.
For larger teams or longer cycles, you can adapt S.T.A.R. for monthly or even quarterly reviews. The key is consistency. Choose a rhythm that fits your team — and stick with it.
Reminder: Weekly reflection is not about perfection — it’s about progress. Use the S.T.A.R. framework to keep your team focused, connected, and growing together. Just remember: Reflect like a S.T.A.R.
